Another Question of the Week!

This week, another one of our blog team members went around and decided to ask the cast a question for the week. This week, the question was "What was your favorite song?" Here were some of the responses:

Eryka, choir member, likes the song "Circulation" for its upbeat tempo.

Cindy, choir member, loves the song "Great American Melting Pot" because of the explanation of how the culture of America is so mixed.

Jessa Mae, choir member, likes the song "A Noun is A Person, Place, Or Thing" because of the mentioning of Chubby Checker and that School Rocks.

Johanna, choir member, likes the song "Circulation" as well because it has a fun choreography.

Talita, choir member, likes the song "Preamble" because it teaches us about American history in a really fun way!

Quesiton of the week!

This week, one of our blog team members went around and decided to ask the cast a question for the week. A different blog member will ask a different question each week. This week, the question was "How do you feel about preforming in front of others?" Here were some of the responses:

Aaylah, choir member, said that she was kind of nervous since she doesn't know the whole audience; now that she is getting to know the whole cast she isn't as afraid anymore.

Evan, George, thinks that singing and dancing in front of others is sorta nerve racking, but he trys to think of how much fun it will be and doesn't care what other people think.

Cindy, choir member, is not really nervous. She's performed in front of others before. She says that once getting on stage, you forget about all the nervousness.

Sandra, choir member, is nervous and afraid of chocking on stage, but she wants to enjoy they experience.

Katrina, Dori, is used to performing in front of others.

Victor, choir member, is confident and has done performances before. Performing in front of the ensemble doesn't get him nervous, but performing infant of people that he doesn't know is "death defying"

Jack, choir member, is not that nervous. He likes to see people see him preform is is really excited for the whole performance.

Ricky, choir member, is happy and excited for the play.

Alex, choir member, is queasy, scared, but at the same time, excited. He says it will be good at the end when the whole show is put together.

Shaniece, choir member, has butterflies when she performs. She gets nervous and sweaty, too.

The Music

For the musical section of SHRLJR, we are practicing our projection and pronunciation for the songs written in our libretto/script. Ms. Cowart, our music director, has picked an amazing separate group to participate in the harmony.  We also have two solo parts in the songs "Do the Circulation" and "Interplanet Janet."  The cast sounds amazing and we can't wait for you to hear us sing!

Terms: Choreography

In our blogs we may use the term choreography. The term choreography is usually used in musicals, or productions with any time of dancing in them. Choreography itself means the sequence of steps and movements in dancing, especially a ballet or any other staged dance.

Terms: Blocking/Staging

When we are talking in your blog, we will be using the term blocking or staging.  Blocking/Staging is when the director gives us a specific place to get to or stand in. There are usually directions the director will tell us to walk in. Like upstage, downstage, stage left, stage right, offstage, and center stage.
